Gold Knob

Most people have a bucket list, Kent has a peakbagger list and it seems to grow longer every year!  I'm not complaining I do enjoy the views and the sense of accomplishment it gives me; I know the day will come when we won't be able to climb mountains anymore so we press on.  At 11,050 ft. Gold Knob is a great hike on a good trail with some of the best views anywhere and it isn't even considered a major peak in the La Sal Mountains.  We highly recommend this hike, it gains 1850 ft. in about 2 miles and it's an easy climb.

We are headed to Moab, I-70 is an amazingly scenic highway

Unfortunately, it rained most of the way

We were sure excited to see blue skies and sunshine in the morning

The smell of Quaking Aspen filled the air on our hike to Gold Knob

A view of Mt. Tuk and Little Tuk, we plan to hike to the top tomorrow!

We came across this little stream flowing along side the trail at Shuman Gulch

The Manti-La Sal National Forest keep the trails well marked

Remnants of an old cabin

Compared to many forests, the Manti-La Sal is a healthy forest

We had a nice trail to follow all the way to the top

A hike up Gold Knob is definitely worth your time, it wasn't hard at all

Just about there . . .

We couldn't see these mountains until we reached the top . . . !

Looking northwest into Castle Valley

Yesterday's rain made for beautiful mountains tops

This hike has the best views of  La Sal Mountains and the canyonlands around Moab

Enjoying a moment before heading back down the trail

We had the trail and Gold Knob all to ourselves

Fall is in the air
