Hancock Peak Trail

Today we set off to hike up Hancock Peak, at least that's where we thought the trail would take us. Think again, it doesn't actually go to the top. The trail runs in a north-south direction, just east of Cedar Breaks National Monument. It was a cool day for a summer hike, the storm clouds were rumbling so we kept our eyes to the sky. We covered 4 miles of terrain going from one rock cairn to the next along the high mountain plateau. We came across a beautiful small lake located at the base of a huge boulder field. Kent had fun fishing Mammoth Creek while I checked out the wildflowers.....me and my camera! It was a fun way to spend the day!

We are off to hike Hancock Peak . . . we think?!

Rock cairns point the way

The clouds were threatening

We spooked up this little buck

We are thankful for the rock cairns, at times the trail just disappears

We read about a small lake and here it is

We are at about 10,000 ft. on the Makagunt Plateau

View from atop the boulder field

I love finding mushrooms that the monsoon rains bring

We were treated to another deer sighting on our hike out

The clouds were absolutely gorgeous

Mammoth Creek

Kent pulled two brookies out of the creek

I checked out the flowers while Kent fished

The wildflowers were absolutely amazing

We stopped at Cedar Breaks National Monument on the way home

Here's a peek from up above
