Redwoods

We arrived at Jeremiah Smith state park in the early afternoon and decided to take a half mile hike through Stout Grove trail in the Redwoods. We continued on a back road, through the Redwoods, to Crescent City. After checking in to our hotel we drove along the coast and found that the Battery Point Lighthouse was closed due to high tides, so we just took some pictures! Later we heard sea lions barking on the rock cliffs off shore on Castle Rock. In the morning, after breakfast, we headed for Orick to obtain a permit to hike the Tall Trees Grove; the gate has a combination lock and the code is changed daily. On our way to the Grove we drove into "FOG in the REDWOODS!!" Very Cool!! We hiked 1.5 miles in and out, plus took in the very scenic one mile loop around the Tall Trees Grove. On our way to Weaverville we took the back roads, both paved and dirt . . . now we really need a car wash! Weaverville is a super cute town, with a mixture of old and new.
